On Saturday 27th November, George Kambosos changed the face of Australian Boxing by defeating the hottest rising star in the sport - Teofimo Lopez. Prior to the fight, Lopez was billed as the next Floyd Mayweather or Canelo Alvarez with nobody foreseeing the events or performance from the 28 year old Australian on the night. The split-decision victory earned Kambosos the WBA, IBF, WBO and The Ring's lightweight world titles, which leaves the question. Is this the new face of the lightweight division?

Kambosos is already a legend back home with there only being a handful of other World Champions from down under, none announcing themselves to the world scene like Kambosos on Saturday night. This undoubtedly makes it the biggest, and most significant, Australian victory of all time.

The fight has left boxing fans asking, what next for Kambosos? Firstly, he will not be fighting for several months as his promotor - Lou DiBell - has said he is taking a few months off in order to grieve his grandfather's death. Secondly, It is unlikely he will be facing off against Teofimo Lopez in the rematch as Kambosos claims Lopez wants 'nothing to do with a rematch' with talks of Lopez going up a weight division and his clear avoidance of the topic of the rematch when asked about it in the post-match interviews.
